October 19, 2025 - The Day of St. Ivan Rilski the Wonderworker
Dear brothers and sisters, dear Orthodox Christians, esteemed compatriots,
With immense joy, excitement and gratitude to God, we announce that on October 19, 2025 – the day on which we commemorate St. John of Rila the Wonderworker, the church “St. John of Rila” in Chicago will once again open its doors, now under the jurisdiction of our native Bulgarian Orthodox Church!
This long-awaited and historic event marks a new chapter in the spiritual life of the Bulgarian community in Chicago. The renewal of the temple is not only a church act, but also a testament to faith, dedication, collective effort and unity. We believe this is a turning point for our community – a sign that when we are together, we can build a house for God and leave a legacy for our children.
Program for the ceremonial opening:
- October 18 (Saturday)
5:00 PM – Hierarchical Vespers Service - October 19 (Sunday) – St. John of Rila the Wonderworker
8:30 AM – Matins
9:00 AM – Consecration of the temple and Hierarchical Divine Liturgy with installation of parish priest Fr. Kiril Kirilov at the Bulgarian Orthodox Church “St. John of Rila”
12:00 PM – Festive lunch on the occasion of the opening and temple feast day
