Father Kiril Begins His Ministry at Sv. Ivan Rilski Church

With immense joy and faith in their hearts, the Bulgarian community in Chicago welcomes their new spiritual leader – Father Kiril. His arrival is a historic event, marking a true new beginning – he is the first priest who will serve at St. Ivan Rilski Church under the jurisdiction of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.

Father Kiril, who arrives with his wife, Presbytera Gyurgia, exemplifies deep and conscious devotion to God. Having embarked on the path of spiritual education later in life, he graduated from the Sofia Theological Seminary and has dedicated himself entirely to priestly service. He comes to us at the recommendation of His Grace Vicar Bishop Kliment of Levki and with the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Joseph.

His path has led him through holy places in Bulgaria, where he has left a legacy of love and care for the faithful. He has served in churches and monasteries such as “St. Nicholas” in Petrich and “St. George” Monastery in Hadzhidimovo. These years have built in him invaluable spiritual experience and understanding of people’s needs, and he himself cherishes precious memories of his ordination and time spent in service.

Father Kiril comes with an inspiring mission: to open the church doors wide to everyone – especially to young people and children, who are the future of our faith. His goal is to transform St. Ivan Rilski Church into a vibrant heart of the Bulgarian community – a place for prayer, enlightenment, and preservation of our roots and traditions.

“Let us believe and not abandon our faith, as we walk together on the Lord’s path.”

His message to all of us is inspired by the words of our church’s heavenly patron – St. Ivan Rilski, and calls each of us to return to faith, guided by his sacred covenant.

Welcome, Father Kiril! May God bless your sacred service! 🙏
